Hi-rel 40W dc-dc has 1in footprint and 10 year warranty

Called MGF40, it comes in an industry standard 1 x 1inch (~25 x 25mm) six-sided-shielded metallic case and is said to have a failure rate of below 30ppm.

“To guarantee lifetime quality, the MGF40 does not include aluminium or tantalum capacitors,” said the firm. “All components are selected for a very long lifetime, making the MGF40 one of the most reliable DC/DC converters in its category.”

Input voltage options are:

4.5 to 13V
9 to 36V or
18 to 76V
A single output version MGFS40 is available in four output voltage: 3.3, 5, 12 or 15V, and can be adjusted within +/- 10% using a resistor bridge or potentiometer.

Dual output version MGFW40 is available in two, factory trimmed, output voltages: +/-12V or +/-15V – so also offering a single 24V or a single 30V respectively.

In the event of low line input levels, the 4.5-13V (MGFS and MGFW 4005) versions have their output power limited to 30W – efficiency typically up to 88%, thanks, in part, to synchronous rectification.

9-36V (MGFS and MGFW 4024) and 18-76V (MGFS and MGFW 4048) versions deliver up to 42W with an efficiency typically up to 92%.

Operating temperature range is -40 to +85°C, with a maximum 105°C case for 4.5-13V input, and +110°C for 9-36V and 18-76V units.

Protection includes over-current, over-voltage protection and over-heating – they switch off once the max save temperature is reached. the unit off when the maximum allowable safe temperature is reached.

Negative logic is provided as standard: the unit is ‘on’ when the control pin is at at logic low.
However, it is possible to order the MGF40 with positive logic (option-R).

For applications requiring lower leakage current or no Y-capacitor connected between the input and the output, option-G is available.

“Calculated in accordance with the Telcordia reliability prediction procedure Issue 4 of SR-332, at 100% load and at +25°C ambient temperature the MGF40 series has an MTBF of 3,153,843 hours, and 675,688 hours at +60C ambient. Calculations are at ground fixed, controlled [GB],” said the firm.

The series has passed three axis vibration testing equivalent to 10G, and shock testing of 50G.

EMI figures are “far below the EN55032:2012 Class A in conduction and radiated emission at 3 meters,” said Cosel.

Housing is nickel-plated brass measuring 25.4 x 25.4 x 9.9mm, and the unit uses Pb-free plated copper pins. Weight is 30g.

Isolation is 1.5kVdc input-to-output and 1kV case-to-input and case-to-output, and the converter is UL62368-1, C-UL [CSA62368-1) and EN62368-1 approved.

Applications are expected in industrial, IoT and mobile equipment applications.
